What is Windows Vista?
Windows Vista is the newest Windows operating system. More information is on the Microsoft Vista website. Microsoft is continuing to support Windows XP: there is no requirement to upgrade immediately.
Before you upgrade
Use Microsoft's Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor to check if your Windows XP-based PC can run Windows Vista.
Some UB-distributed software may not work with Vista. See our Vista compatibility with UB-distributed software for more information.
If your computer is UB-owned, contact your department’s IT support staff for advice and recommendations.
Vista Upgrade warning
If you are planning to upgrade an existing Windows installation to any version of Vista, you must un-install all Symantec products prior to starting the upgrade.
After the upgrade, install Symantec AntiVirus for Vista.
Symantec Client Security is not yet available for Vista: we recommend you use Symantec AntiVirus and the Vista firewall.

What version will be available at UB?
The “Windows Vista Ultimate upgrade” is available to eligible students, faculty, and staff for use on their personally owned computers from UBMicro.
What are the hardware requirements for Windows Vista?
Vista hardware requirements are available on the Microsoft website. The Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor will help you determine if your computer meets the hardware requirements.
What about virus and spyware protection?
What about security?
Symantec AntiVirus runs on Windows Vista. Symantec Client Security for Windows Vista is not currently available for Vista.
Windows Vista comes with a firewall to help protect your computer.
