Migrating to Your New UBITName

Your new account is temporary

Once you have completed all the steps below you must tell us to make it permanent.

It is important that you complete all the steps below in order to successfully migrate to your new account. You will have 30 days to complete these following steps.

1. Change Your Password

Change your password immediately. Your initial password has been set to the four-digit month and day of your birth followed by the last six digits of your UB Card number (located under your picture and above your name). For instance, if your birthday was July 4, and the last six digits of your UB Card number were 123456, your default password would be 0704123456.

2. Activate Your UBIT Mailbox

You must activate your UBIT mailbox for your new account.

Until you activate your UBIT mailbox on your new account, you cannot receive email at it, and anyone sending email to your new address will have it returned as undeliverable.

3. Notify Friends, Family, and Colleagues

Once your old account has been deactivated, email sent to it will be returned to the sender undelivered. Until then, email will continue to be delivered to your old account. Make sure you give your new email address to those who need to contact you.

4. Arrange for Related Changes

5. Migrate Email and Files

Copy any email messages or files from your old account to your new account. If you need assistance migrating your data or need help with any other issues that you may have regarding this change, contact the CIT Help Desk at cit-helpdesk@buffalo.edu or via phone at (716) 645-3542.

6. Make Your New Account Permanent

Send email to cit-accounts@buffalo.edu from your new account asking that we remove your old account, which will make your new account permanent. We will not remove your old account until you tell us to.

You will receive a deactivation message for your new account 14 days prior to its scheduled deactivation. This message is a reminder for you to request that your old account be deactivated.

If you do not tell us to close your old account within 30 days from when we created your new account, your new account will be deactivated.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any further questions.
