Departing the university
Congratulations! You’re ready to graduate. You have a lot to think about right now, whether it’s deciding upon your next apartment or your first steps into the work world. During this transition from the university, we want to make sure you have the facts about what will happen to your UBITName account.
How long is my university account active after I graduate?
Your account will expire six months after graduation. During this time, we recommend you:
- establish a new e-mail address with a commercial provider, such as Hotmail or Gmail
- Sign up for a free lifetime forwarding email address with the Alumni Association
- notify your contacts of your new e-mail address
- forward your university e-mail account to your new address
What happens to my files on University servers?
All your files (your website, UBlearns, UBFS, email messages) will be deleted after your account is deactivated. Save all your work now, before your account deactivates. Download your files from UBlearns, UBFS, and your website to your personal computer.
How does my graduation affect my Facebook account?
Your ability to use Facebook to network with other University at Buffalo students will expire, along with your university e-mail, six months after graduation. Before graduating, you may want to change your e-mail address within the Facebook settings to another carrier, such as Hotmail, Yahoo, or Gmail.
If you have any questions regarding any of these topics, please do not hesitate to contact the CIT Help Desk.
