Departing the university
Congratulations! You’re ready to graduate. You have a lot to think about right now, whether it’s deciding upon your next apartment or your first steps into the work world. During this transition from the university, we want to make sure you have the facts about what will happen to your UBITName account.
What happens to my account when I graduate?
You can sign up with the Alumni Association to have your account converted to a Google account, which you can retain for life.
What happens to my files on University servers?
You have six months from your degree conferral date to download your files from UBlearns, UBFS, and your website to your personal computer. Your files will not be accessible after that, and will be deleted. If you graduated with a degree conferral date of February 1, 2009 or earlier, or you graduated with a degree conferral date of June 1, 2009 and choose to not opt in for Google Apps, your existing e-mail in your account will also be deleted six months after your degree conferral date.
How does my graduation affect my Facebook account?
If you graduated with a degree conferral date of June 1, 2009 or later, and you choose to opt in for Google Apps, your ability to use Facebook to network with other University at Buffalo students will remain unchanged.
If you graduated with a degree conferral date of February 1, 2009 or earlier, or you graduated with a degree conferral date of June 1, 2009 and do not opt in for Google Apps, your ability to use Facebook to network with other University at Buffalo students will expire six months after your degree conferral date. Before then, you may want to change your e-mail address within the Facebook settings to another carrier, such as Hotmail, Yahoo, or Gmail.
If you have any questions regarding any of these topics, please do not hesitate to contact the CIT Help Desk.
