Access UBfs
Web Folders on Windows Vista
Web Folders is the Microsoft Windows implementation of WebDAV. WebDAV allows you to drag-and-drop files to and from your computer and a web server, such as ubfs.buffalo.edu (UBfs).
Mapping a drive directly to UBfs is the preferred file access method, but Web Folders is an alternate method when drive mapping is not available, for example if you are on ResNet.
Requirements
Your computer must be running Windows Vista. Authentication to UBfs is done with your UBITName as ad\UBITName and your password or a departmental AD account (ITorg account) and password.
Creating a web folder
Create a web folder at the topmost level of the UBfs filesystem:
- From Start select Computer
- Right click Map Network Drive
- Select the link Connect to a Web site that you can use to store your documents and pictures.
- The Add a Network Location wizard will open. Click Next.
- Select Choose another Network Location. Click Next.
- In the Internet or Network Address field enter https://ubfs-mac.buffalo.edu/ubfs/ Yes! ubfs-mac.buffalo.edu
- Click Next.
- Enter ad\UBITName and your password. If you have a departmental account, enter itorg\MyITorg and password where MyITorg is your departmental account name.
- Enter a meaningful name for this link to your folder, such as ubfs. Click Next.
- Click Finish.
- A window will open to the topmost area in UBfs. Only the folders to which your have permission will be displayed. Right click on the folders and select Open to navigate.
Connect to other UBfs directories
A web folder can also link to any particular directory; multiple folders can be created.
To link to Myfiles, create a web folder for:
https://ubfs-mac.buffalo.edu/ubfs/myfiles/j/d/jdoewhere j is the first letter of your UBITName, d is the second letter of your UBITName, and your UBITName is jdoe.
To link to Collaboration (collab) space, create a web folder for:
https://ubfs-mac.buffalo.edu/ubfs/collab
UBfs file transactions
It's recommended that you do not include spaces in file names to avoid having spaces converted to the space designation: %20 .
Add, delete and edit files on UBfs using your Web Folders. You can also save files from applications. Choose File --> Save and choose My Network Places, then the name of your Web Folder.
Manage permissions of files on UBfs
File permissions cannot be modified through Web Folders. Browse to https://ubfs.buffalo.edu and login with your UBITName and password to modify permissions of files and directories.
