UB File Services (UBFS)

Manage your files from Windows

Once you have mapped a drive you can manage your files as you do the other files on your computer.

Myfiles folders

The folders in Myfiles cannot be renamed.

  • Public_html is the folder with your personal web page.
  • Ubunix.home is the place holder for your ubunix home directory
  • Ubunix
    • store your Unix, Linux, or Mac files in this folder
    • contains the folder Solaris (migrated from the old ubfs). It can be renamed or deleted.
  • Windows
    • is the folder for your windows files
    • contains the folders nt and data (migrated from the old ubfs); may be renamed or deleted

Sharing files

  1. Right click on the file name and select Properties from the menu.
  2. Select the Security tab in the Properties window and choose Add.
  3. Enter your UBITName preceded by ad\ and your password.
  4. Type the UBITName (as ad\UBITName) of the person to whom you are giving access and select the permissions you want to give this user.
  5. Choose Apply to save the setting.

UBFS.VFMUser

UBFS.VFMUser is a system account that facilitates service for your folders.

Previous Versions

Every 6 hours a copy of each folder in Myfiles is made. Copies are made at 6am, noon, 6pm and midnight. The 8 most recent copies are available. To display a previous folder version:

  1. right click on the folder
  2. select the Properties tab
  3. click on a  date/time to choose the folder version you want to open

To reactivate a particular file from an older folder,  open the file and Save As to save it to a current folder.
