Using UBVPN for Windows

  1. Click Start, select All Programs, Cisco Systems VPN Client, then VPN Client.

  2. Choose oncampus if you are connecting from a Wireless Internet Zone or other wireless area on campus. Choose offcampus if you are connecting from a third-party Internet Service Provider, such as Verizon or Time Warner. Click the Connect icon in the upper left corner.
Note: UBVPN cannot be used from within ResNet, wired offices on campus, wired OpenPort connections, or dial-up to UB (UB PPP).
  3. Enter your UBITName and UBIT password, then click OK.
  4. Click Continue. The Banner page will appear. UBVPN will stay connected for up to 24 hours of use or up to three hours of inactivity.

    Note
: Power management modes differ from laptop to laptop. If you are using a laptop connected to a wireless network, when your computer goes into sleep mode, the wireless network card will drop your Internet connection. Stop and restart the UBVPN Client to reconnect to UBVPN.
When you are done with your connection to UB, disconnect by clicking the Disconnect icon in the upper left corner of the UBVPN window.
You can also right-click on the UBVPN icon (which resembles a padlock) in the System Tray of the Taskbar at the bottom of the screen, then select Disconnect.
