Symantec EndPoint Protection AntiVirus and Firewall 11.0.6100

Symantec EndPoint Protection AntiVirus and Firewall features both anti-virus software and firewall protection. AntiVirus protects your computer from viruses, worms, and Trojan horses in email, instant messages, and other files. The firewall enhances online security by restricting access to hackers and many internet worms. LiveUpdate keeps your computer security up-to-date automatically.

You must remove other anti-virus programs before installing Symantec EndPoint Protection AntiVirus and Firewall.

AntiVirus and Firewall for 32-bit Windows

Most computers sold before mid-2008 came with 32-bit Windows XP or Vista. Directions on Microsoft's website can help you determine which version you have. Download and install the 32-bit version on these computers.

AntiVirus and Firewall for 64-bit Windows

Many computers sold after mid-2008 come with 64-bit Windows Vista. Directions on Microsoft's website can help you determine which version you have. Download and install the 64-bit version on these computers.

Important Installation Information

  1. Download the appropriate version (see above)
  2. Disconnect from the Internet
  3. Uninstall any other anti-virus software from your computer
  4. Vista users should right-click on the downloaded file and select "Run as administrator"
  5. Double-click on the downloaded file to install
  6. Install as an Unmanaged Client and choose a Typical Install
  7. When installation is complete, re-connect to the Internet
  8. Double-click the yellow shield in the system tray in the lower right corner of your screen and select LiveUpdate from the left pane

Scheduling LiveUpdates

  1. Double-click the yellow shield in your system tray and select Change settings
  2. Select Configure Settings for Client Management
  3. Select the Scheduled Updates tab
  4. Choose the frequency and time for automatic updates

Scheduling Scans

  1. Double-click the yellow shield in your system tray and select Scan for threats
  2. Click Create a New Scan
  3. Select the scan type
  4. Select All types to check all file types
  5. Select At specified times
  6. Choose the frequency of the scan
  7. Name your scheduled scan

This software can not be downloaded and stored in a shared file space.

Symantec EndPoint Protection AntiVirus and Firewall is licensed to all students paying the technology fee, faculty, and staff at the University at Buffalo. Faculty and staff are licensed to install Symantec EndPoint Protection AntiVirus and Firewall software on university and personally owned computers for academic or work-related purposes. Faculty and Staff must be employed by the state, UB Foundation, Research Foundation, Faculty Student Association, the Practice Plans, or have Geographic Full Time Faculty status.

    • Geographic Full time Faculty
  • UB State employees (UUP, CSEA, MC, PEF)
  • SubBoard I (SBO) employees
  • Research Foundation employees at UB
  • UB Foundation employees
