What can I do to make it easier to share my Office 2008 documents with older versions of Office?

You can change the default file format so all new documents created will be compatible with older versions of Office. To change the default file format in Office 2008:

  1. On the Excel menu, click Preferences.
  2. Under Sharing and Privacy, click Compatibility.
  3. On the Save files in this format pop-up menu, select the file format corresponding to "Excel 97-2004 Workbook (.xls)"
