Hi my name is (student’s name) and in this lesson we will learn about many of the resources UB makes available to you online.

First, let’s talk about MyUB which you’ll find out is the center of your online world here at UB. MyUB is your main access point to University services, resources and your personal information. It acts as your gateway to all the important links you’ll need within the university community.  It’s fast and easy, and customized just for you. Let’s take a closer look at just a few of the quick links that are highlighted on MyUB and show you how quickly you can access an amazing amount of tools and information.

Notice the Index on the left side of the MyUB page. Use it to access the MyUB pages for specific topics.  The “academics/course” page will connect you to course schedules, online registration and your grades, just to name a few.

Use the “UBmail” feature to access your UB email from anywhere in the world.

Find out about important current announcements, deadlines, services, and changes at UB though the “Need to know” channel.

Look up contact information for any person or department in the UB community with the “Search” feature.

MyUB really takes all the guesswork out of finding the resources you need at UB, and these are just a few of the features you’ll find yourself using everyday.

Now, let’s visit UBlearns, the hub of the University’s online learning. UBlearns is where faculty post course documents and presentations, use discussion boards or post links to web sites, and even use UBlearns to give assignments and tests.  UBlearns is also capable of delivering video, audio, images and includes chat and email features.

UBlearns is a web service based on “Blackboard” software, a web based course management and delivery application. It’s possible that not all of your courses will be available on the UBlearns site.  Instructors decide on a course by course basis whether or not to utilize this online tool, but each semester more and more faculty are using UBlearns to enhance their courses and expect you to access their materials on a daily basis. Courses that are available are not necessarily all alike.  Instructors plan and organize their UBlearns materials based on their course’s content and faculty needs.

Visit the UBlearns site and check it out. Once you get to UB, access your other courses on UBlearns from your MyUB home page.

MyUB and UBlearns are the two online resources you won’t be able to live without here at UB, so make sure you spend some time familiarizing yourself with them and taking advantage of how they can keep you organized and in the know. Thanks for watching!
