Lesson 7: UBIT at Your Service

2. Read the Summary

UB has numerous public computer labs that provide computer access to students no matter where they might be on-campus.

On the North Campus, public sites are located in Bell and Fronczak Halls. The computers in these computing sites are available to all UB students and staff who are welcome to log onto any available computer using their UBITName and password. In addition, there are public computing sites in the UB Libraries known as Cybraries. These are located in the Capen Library and Lockwood Library. For students living in one of the North Campus residence halls, you’ll find sites in both the Clinton and Red Jacket Halls. On UB’s South Campus public sites are located in Diefendorf Hall and the Health Science Library, as well as inside the Clement residence hall for students who reside there.

The comprehensive student fees helps pay for over 550 computers and support in these Cybraries and public sites, as well as over 100 computers dedicated to research in the Libraries. For more information, the CIT Public Computing site has up-to-date comprehensive information about each location such as what hardware, software and specific services are available there.

In addition to providing students access to computers and the internet, public sites offer plenty of places for students to print out their work. UB’s printing service, iprint@ub provides each student up to 1500 printed sheets per year at no additional cost. Students who need to exceed this page allocation can purchase additional sheets with Campus Cash using your UB card, or with print/copy cards available at print locations.

UBMicro, UB’s non-profit computer store, is a one-stop hub for computer products, services and information for UB students and staff at reasonable prices. All UBMicro products meet the UBIT standards, and as an authorized higher education reseller, UBMicro can sell many computer products at educational discounts. UBMicro is located in the Commons on the North Campus and offers a wide array of computers, business utilities, scientific software, educational software, and accessories.
