Newsgroups are bulletin boards on the internet. Here at UB, there are many topics including a newsgroup for many classes, announcements, classifieds, job postings, computers, and many more.

How do I access newsgroups?

You can use any news reader to access our news server. Simply set your news reader up to use the following:

Our news server, news.buffalo.edu, is accessible if you connect to the Internet access via UB (i.e. dialing into Remote Access, ResNet, OpenPort, in an on-campus office, or on a Unix computer within buffalo.edu). If you are accessing the internet by some other means, you will have to use your ISP's news server. University related newsgroups (sunyab.*) will be unavailable to you from your ISP's news server.
