Using Email from Off Campus
We recommend UBmail for customers who want to use their UB email while off campus.
You can use most email programs to access your UB email from off campus. You must configure your email program to send email from off campus. If you do not, you may see the following error message:
550 That domain isn't in my list of rcpt hosts
Sending email from off campus
You have four options for sending email from your UB email address while connecting from off campus:
- Use secure SMTP
Secure SMTP allows you to use smtp.buffalo.edu from your off-campus internet connection. - Use UBmail
UBmail is web-based email service you can use from nearly any computer. - Use your ISP's outgoing (SMTP) email server
Check with your ISP for necessary configuration settings. - Use VPN
Connect to the UB network with our virtual private network (VPN) software to use the UB outgoing email server (SMTP) from off campus ISPs. VPN software gives you a secure connection to the UB campus network, allowing you to send email from the UB outgoing email server (SMTP). VPN software is available for Windows, Macintosh, and Linux computers.
