Linux: UBLinux 4

Getting UBLinux 4.6

UBLinux 4.6 consists of 4 CD's. All 4 CD's are required to install the UBLinux operating system. You can obtain the CD's by one of two options:

  1. Purchasing the CD set at the UBMicro computer store in the UB Commons. A fee of $7.95 for students or $14.95 for faculty/staff is charged per CD set.
  2. Download the CD images from our download site and then, using CD burning software, transfer the image to the CD media. NOTE: If you have installed UBLinux 4.0 or 4.1 you do not need to download UBLinux 4.6. However, you need to apply the UBLinux 4.0 to 4.5 upgrade. If you have installed UBLinux 4.2 or later, your system should already be upgraded to UBLinux 4.6 via automatic system upgrades. Please contact ublinux-support@buffalo.edu if you have any questions.
  3. If you have already installed Red Hat Enterprise Linux Workstation 4, you can download a smaller update to apply the UBLinux 4 customizations and software to your existing installation. Installation instructions are available on the UBLinux 4 download site.

NOTE: The CD images are very large files (approximately 650 MB) each. Do not attempt to download these if you have a slow and/or unreliable internet connection. We encourage you to purchase the CD's from UBMicro instead.

NOTE for AMD 64-bit processors: UBLinux 4 is not compatile with AMD 64-bit processors, although it works fine with Intel 64-bit processors running in 32-bit mode. If you have an AMD 64-bit processor, we recommend that you install a 64-bit version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Also note that some applications and device drivers are not compatible with 64-bit Linux yet.

If you are on campus, or if you are off campus and connected via the VPN, proceed to the UBLinux 4.5 download site.
