Linux: UBLinux 4
UBLinux 4 Support and Documentation
UBLinux 4 is a distribution of GNU Linux that is customized to cater to the desktop computing needs of most UB students, faculty, and staff. Some of the main features of UBLinux include:
- Easy to install and maintain on personal workstations.
- Easy to keep up-to-date through use of the Red Hat Network (RHN).
- Configured with appropriate security settings for UB campus networks
- Documentation and support provides novice users a chance to learn how to use GNU Linux.
- Provides a suite of current stable versions of user applications that approximates, if not achieves, the same level of access to UBIT as an MS-Windows machine with TechTools software.
NOTE for AMD 64-bit processors: UBLinux 4 is not compatile with AMD 64-bit processors, although it works fine with Intel 64-bit processors running in 32-bit mode. If you have an AMD 64-bit processor, we recommend that you install a 64-bit version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Also note that some applications and device drivers are not yet compatible with 64-bit Linux.
